Oct 17, 2005, 11:49

Dozens of Iranian women gathered, today, at the "Enghelab" square in order to protest peacefully against the social and poor economic conditions in Iran. They were joined by several dozens of male supporters in their action.

Slogans in favor of social justice, freedom and equality of gender were shouted by the demonstrators. Tracts expressing the same requests were distributed in the area.

Security forces were soon deployed to control the situation and to place roadblocks in order to avoid a spread of this action. Plainclothes agents were seen taking film and picture from the demonstrators.
