Iran leader's Israel threat

The Sun:

IRAN’S President has warned Israel it will be "annihilated".

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad called Israel a “rotten, dried tree” that will be wiped out by “one storm”.

The controversial Iranian leader made the threat at a conference to support Palestians that opened today in Tehran.

He ranted: “Like it or not, the Zionist regime is heading toward annihilation”.

The president spoke days after two Israeli generals spoke of the military potential of Iran’s nuclear program.

On Wednesday the chief of Israeli military intelligence, Maj Gen Amos Yadlin, said Iran could develop a nuclear bomb “within three years, by the end of the decade.”

The day before Ahmadinejad announced Iran had successfully enriched uranium - a significant step towards either fuelling nuclear reactors or making nuclear bombs.

The United States, France and Israel accuse Iran of using a civilian nuclear program to secretly build an atomic bomb.

Iran denies this, saying its program is confined to generating electricity.

The UN Security Council has given Iran until April 28 to cease enrichment but Iran has rejected the demand.
